I’ve been working on a mini (3.5 inch square) series that has turned out to be an excellent vehicle for trying out different sized hand-cut stencils. Working on these small paintings is, I imagine, a bit like working on a short story. There’s not a lot of space to communicate an idea, so one needs to be concise. As the layers developed, the story these little paintings started to tell was more and more about…olives. I kept seeing deep turquoise pimentos in a mildly olive shape. I decided to double down on the idea. They’re super cute little squares evoking mid-century cocktails, or at least what we imagine that era to be.
